2. AYY awarded prizes and acknowledgments at its anniversary on Saturday
AYY’s fifth anniversary was celebrated at Smökki and the Culture Centre Gloria on Saturday, 31 Jan 2015. In the celebration, prizes for the learning promotion deed and the international deed were awarded for the year of 2014. The learning promotion deed 2014 was awarded to course on working life of the School of Chemical Technology. The international deed of the year 2014 was awarded to the cultural section Kuji for subtitling a freshman performance into English.
AYY’s highest acknowledgment, the badge of honour, was awarded to AYY’s first Secretary General Teemu Halme. The hero badge was awarded to Juha Kallas, the selling of Dipoli and Aalto in/on X. In addition, 17 community badges and 6 badges of merit were awarded.

3. Vote for Aino in a magazine contest!
AYY’s student magazine Aino has been chosen as one of the best 20 magazines in the cover contest organised by Suomen Aikakauslehtien Liitto. The public will vote for the best cover. Vote for Aino at http://www.editkilpailu.fi/kansi2014! It only takes a moment to vote. Thank you!
4. Club room at OK18A available for reservations from 9 Feb 2015 onwards
The club room at OK18A is located in the staircase of Otakaari 18 A building. The size of the room is approximately 70 m2 and it includes a small kitchen. The facility is suitable for playing board games or having meetings, for example. The facility is modestly furnished and there are no kitchen utensils, for example. However, we aim at improving the room and you can send development suggestions to tilat@ayy.fi. The club room at OK18A is free of charge for the student union members and costs €60 / hour for others.

5. Apply for Vaisala Giant Leap program now!
Looking for an internship that is more than a summer job? Application period for Vaisala Giant Leap program is running one more week! Take a look at this video to find out about our last summer interns’ experiences on the program. The internship projects we offer deal with innovating new marketing strategies, mapping our competitors, developing production testing processes, investigating new technologies and creating concepts in product development, for example. For students interested in software development, we offer projects dealing with cloud computing, mobile enablement and software test automation .

6. Apply for the Student Union’s Central Election Committee
In addition to all the other exciting affairs, the year 2015 is the year of the Representative Council elections. The Central Election Committee is in the heart of the elections. Are you interested in making AYY’s next Representative Council elections the best so far? Applications for the Central Election Committee are submitted via the electronic form at: https://lomake.ayy.fi/hallinto/kvl/. The deadline for applications is 12noon on 18 Feb 2015.
The members of the Central Election Committee may not run as candidates in the Representative Council elections in 2015.
The Central Election Committee decides on polling and advance polling stations, establishes the election committees, checks the candidacy notifications and agreements on electoral alliances and coalitions, performs the vote count audit and supervises the general order in the elections, among other things.
7. AYY puts the student cap on the Manta statue this Wappu – what kind of a spectacle that should be?
We want to hear your wildest ideas concerning the Wappu tradition to put the student cap on the Manta statue. This year it’s AYY’s turn to have the honour and we want to make it something special. 8. Service fee introduced at the service point for rent payments starting on 1 Feb 2015
From 1 Feb 2015 onwards, Otaniemi Service Point will intoduce a new service fee. The service fee of five euro (€5) is charged if you pay the rent in cash or with payment card at the student union’s service point. You can still make the first payment for free but we will charge you for the following payments. The service fee is collected because the processing of transactions causes additional work at the service point. It is advisable to pay the rents primarily through online banking.
For now, the service fee is not charged when you pay for the membership fee or the rent for facilities rented on a one-time basis at the service point.
9. Tools for anxious situations workshop
The workshop is intended for students whose anxiety affects their studies and who would like to find tools for coping with anxiety. There are many types of anxiety, one is nervous to perform, others fear social situations or might be anxious about something else.
The workshop provides an opportunity to handle different situations and anxiety in general – from the participants’ own starting points.Course methods include discussion, as well as exercises done alone and in the group.

10. Friday meeting of Aalto Greens at Kipsari
Are you interested in green themes? Would you like to make the world a better place? Or talk about current topics? Maybe join our activities? Or just drink beer with us on Friday evening?
Whether you are familiar with green themes or just interested in getting to know nice people, come to Kipsari on Arabia Campus on Friday 6 February and get to know the new Board of Aalto Greens, new acquaintances and the events of the upcoming year 🙂
Aalto Greens is a green organisation operating at Aalto University, the purpose of which is to connect environmentally-friendly students.

12. Audiopoli’s new speaker construction project starts!
Audiopoli organises a new speaker construction project in the spring of 2015, where we construct high-quality floor speakers. The project consists of joint orders and workshops where you are guided to construct the speakers.

13. Aava goes Pikkulaskiainen – you still have time to participate
Aava and KUJ are organizing a trip to the pride of our western student city, the event Pikkulaskiainen. This year Pikkulaskiainen goes Winter Break so be ready for last minute travel deals! The day begins with a traditional toboggan slide event in Puolalanpuisto in Turku and continues with a joyful pub crawl in the city centre. The afterparty is held at Night Club Börs, which is already sold out elsewhere!

14. Apply for iGEM team 2015!
Now you can apply for perhaps the coolest university competition ever! Implement your ideas in the research group of students, plan and build your own biological system from DNA and represent Finland in Boston. Learn an incredible amount of new things and spend a memorable summer around synthetic biology.
We are now looking for all kinds of Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students, regardless of their study field,
to join the common team of the University of Helsinki and Aalto University. The most important requirements are motivation and the desire to learn new things, so you should apply even if you know nothing about synthetic biology.
