1. THE SUBMITTING OF ASSOCIATION NOTICES AND THE APPLICATION PERIOD FOR THE OPERATING GRANT TO END ON MONDAY, 31 MARCH

The submitting of AYY’s association notices and the application period for the operating grant will end within a week on Monday, 31 March at 11.59pm. The application form can be found at:

https://lomake.ayy.fi/yhdistykset/ayyn-toiminta-avustushakemus-2014/. If you have any problems with the form or the application process, if the financial statement of your association is not completed in a timely manner, for example, please contact the organisation specialist (jarjestoasiat@ayy.fi, kati.penttinen@ayy.fi or 050 520 9442). Late applications or unexplained incomplete applications will result in a significant reduction of the allocated amount.

All associations approved in the first list of AYY’s association register may apply for the operating grant. All associations in the list, however, must fill out the association notice. If the association notice is not submitted in two consecutive years, the association may be removed from AYY’s association register.

Please fill out the application carefully and reserve enough time to do it. Further information on the allocated grants is available at /apurahat-yhdistyksille/, which includes the scoring model used for the allocation of the operating grants and the grant amounts allocated in the previous years.

Please remember that the prerequisite for the operating grant is the association profile at AYY.fi, and the associations are responsible for updating their profiles. If you have lost your user name or otherwise need help with updating your profile, you can send e-mail to jarjestoasiat@ayy.fi.

2. RESPOND TO THE ASSOCIATION FACILITY SURVEY

Numerous different associations operate within AYY. Some of these associations use association facilities and the rest would like to have one. Or at least that is what we think in AYY.

However, because belief is not knowledge, we are now reviewing the facility needs and wishes of associations, as well as the use of current facilities. Through the survey, we hope to receive diverse information so that we can take different perspectives into account when considering the use of facilities in the future. We hope to receive answers both from those associations which already use association facilities and those which would like to have one!

Please respond to the survey on behalf of your association at http://lomake.ayy.fi/hallinto/yhdistysten-tilatoiveiden-kartoittaminen

You can respond until Monday, 21 Apr 2014.

Further information: Administrative Director Johanna Pietiläinen (johanna.pietilainen@ayy.fi, 050 520 9434)

3. EARN MONEY FOR YOUR ASSOCIATION BY SELLING TICKETS TO ICE HOCKEY GAME

Finnish Ice Hockey Association offers student organisations the opportunity to earn money by selling student campaign tickets to Euro Hockey Tour Finland-Russia game played at Hartwall Arena on 1 May. May Day is traditionally the students’ festive period. Now you have the opportunity to end your May Day in a sporty and entertaining atmosphere at the last home match of Leijonat before the World Championships in the spring.

Now you have the opportunity to buy tickets at the price of €15/pc (normal price of category C tickets purchased from Lippupiste cost €23.50 (€20 + Lippupiste fee €3.5). Tickets can be sold at the price of €20/pc, for example, when associations make profit and students still get their tickets at lower prices. There are a total of 100 tickets that can be sold at this reduced price. A single organisation can request less tickets or all of them. You do not have to buy tickets in advance: you only pay for the sold ones and you can return unsold tickets. In addition, we offer 50 Leijonat overall badges to speed up your sales.

If you are interested, please contact Event Coordinator Petteri Hietanen (petteri.hietanen@finhockey.fi, tel. 040 596 9660) as soon as possible. Tickets and overall badges are delivered to a provided address. You can sell tickets until 15 Apr, after which you pay for the sold tickets and unsold tickets will be returned to the general sale.

Dipoli’s contract of sale has been signed

Aalto University Student Union
Release, 14 March 2014
For immediate release

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) and Aalto University Properties Ltd have today signed a contract of sale for Dipoli. The purchase price was eight million five hundred thousand (8,500,000) euro.

Discussions on the selling of Dipoli building have been ongoing already in TKY’s Representative Council since 2005. After a pre-agreement expired at the end of 2012, AYY’s Representative Council entitled the Board and the Financial Committee to continue the search for buyer candidates for Dipoli at its meeting on 28 Feb 2013. An advisory board was established to promote the sale of the property, which has actively negotiated with Aalto University Properties Ltd throughout the year. AYY’s Representative Council approved the offer of Aalto University Properties Ltd at its meeting on 19 Dec 2013.

”It is fantastic that this long process has now been completed. I believe that along with the new owner, Dipoli will become an increasingly important part of the campus” says Chairperson of AYY Board Lauri Lehtoruusu.

One of AYY’s predecessor student unions, the Student Union of Helsinki University of Technology (TKY), built Dipoli to be the student union building as the successor of Vanha Poli when the Helsinki University of Technology was transferred to Otaniemi in Espoo. After the architecture contests, the building was designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä. Dipoli’s foundation stone was laid on 12 March 1965 and the inauguration of the building was celebrated on 29 Sept 1966. In 1968, Cone Statue designed by Reijo Perkko was erected in front of Dipoli. Since the 1990s, the building has been rented to Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) and later it has been used as Aalto University’s education and conference centre.

This is an invitation to you: please add your association’s events to the site. Even if the details of your event have not been confirmed yet, please add at least a dummy, so that everyone can take down the date. Event information can be easily updated later after you have registered your user name and password when creating the event. Events will not appear immediately in the calendar but will be added there as soon as possible.

So please add your event during next week (week 12): the site will be advertised on the following week.

Listen, EU! Take part in the students’ EU panel discussion Fri 14 March – also broadcasted live!

On Friday 14 March at 9:30-12:00, the two national unions for higher education students in Finland, SAMOK and SYL, will arrange an EU elections panel discussion Listen, EU!, focusing on themes relevant to students and youth.

The panel discussion includes top names from all the main parties:

Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (Social Democratic Party), Anni Sinnemäki (Green League), Sampo Terho (True Finns), Björn Månsson (Swedish People’s Party), Annika Lapintie (Left Alliance), Petri Sarvamaa (National Coalition Party), Anneli Jäätteenmäki (Centre Party), and Juha Richter (Christian Democrats).

Europe is growing grey, and EU struggles with a lack of confidence in the union. Questions we will put to the candidates include: What can EU offer the younger generation? How can EU decision-making be made more transparent and understandable? Why should students at all be interested in EU and decisions being made in Brussels? How can students and youth be heard? Is the European Commission sneaking in to national education policy through a back door?

Welcome to partake in the toughest election debate this spring!

4. Sign up for Smökki’s kitchen training

Would you or your association like to organise a mega party at Smökki and take care of catering by yourself? Are you not familiar with how to use a catering kitchen?

There is a solution to your problems: Smökki’s kitchen training.

Two training sessions will be organised in the spring: Monday, 24 Mar and Monday, 31 Mar, from 4pm onwards in Smökki’s kitchen. As there has been a demand for training sessions and we want to share knowledge evenly to different parties, we have to limit the number of participants, so that only one person from each guild or association may participate in the training session. Both training sessions may include 15-20 participants.

Please sign up by 11.45pm on Wed, 19 Mar 2014 at  https://lomake.ayy.fi/hallinto/ilmoittautuminen-servin-mokin-keittiokoulutukseen/

We will confirm the course registration via e-mail.

Have you lost something? Otaniemi Service Point has stored lost property saved from various events (mainly organised in Otaniemi). Lost property includes coats, backpacks, overalls, tailcoat, gloves, woolly hats, song books, car keys, etc.

Uncollected lost property, which is currently stored, will be disposed of on Monday, 17 Mar 2014. Please come and pick up your property immediately.

On Monday, 17 March, useful goods will be delivered to Otaniemi Recycling Centre and valuable goods (car keys, jewellery, etc.) will be delivered to Espoo Police Station. Dirty and broken goods will be placed in the bin.

In the future, you can inquire lost property from Otaniemi Service Point for two weeks after the event in question.

AYY: Community’s safety net is an important part of well-being

Release
6 Mar 2014
Aalto University Student Union

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) is shocked and worried about the stabbing incident, which took place yesterday in front of Dipoli. AYY constantly cooperates with the University, FSHS and regional health care units in order to promote well-being and prevent violent situations.

The entire student community has an important role in the prevention. No person should be allowed to drop through the human safety net. Community support is important for each of us, and especially for those who have any worries. In addition to early intervention, it is important to provide adequate resources for the promotion of physical and mental well-being.

”The most dangerous scenario that could happen to each of us is to be left alone with your worries”, says Chair of AYY Board Lauri Lehtoruusu. ”The best cure for this is a functinoing, approving and healthy community.”

Further information:

Chair of AYY Board Lauri Lehtoruusu: 050 5209 420, lauri.lehtoruusu@ayy.fi
AYY’s Secretary General Janne Koskenniemi:  050 5209 415, janne.koskenniemi@ayy.fi

Due to the violent situation, a debriefing session will be organised for the students and staff in TU2 auditorium in TUAS Building (Otaniementie 17) at 1pm on 7 March. The event is open to all who are affected by the case or consider necessary to discuss the raised emotions with experts. Professionals from FSHS and Terveystalo will also be present in the event.

Crisis support is available for students at FSHS. http://www.yths.fi/vastaanotto_ja_neuvonta/mielenterveys/kriisiapu (yths.fi)
