AYY appointed the Board for the year of 2015 – Niko Ferm appointed as the chairperson

The Representative Council of Aalto University Student Union (AYY) appointed the Student Union Board for the year of 2015 at its meeting on Thursday, 27 Nov 2014. The fifth year student of network economics Niko Ferm was appointed as the chairperson of the Board. This year, Ferm has acted in AYY Board being responsible for communications, organisations and facilities. Previously, he has led Aalto Community Section Aava, among other things.

In 2015, activities will focus on the campus development and the removal of business bachelor students to Otaniemi. ”This group has excellent conditions and know-how to take care of next year’s challenges successfully!” rejoices Ferm.

The Board’s term of office begins in January and lasts for a calendar year. The new Board is organised at its first meeting. Aalto University Student Union AYY is a service and advocacy organisation for approximately 15,000 Aalto University students. AYY acts as the advocate of its members in academic and social affairs, in particular.

24/7 student facility at Maarintalo

24/7 facility is available for guilds and other associations on the 2nd floor of Maarintalo (SÀhkömiehentie 3), where you can have meetings, play games, watch films, etc. The building is open on weekdays at 8am-4pm. If the door is locked, you can ask the mail room downstairs to open the door on weekdays between 8am-4pm. Between 4pm-8am, you can ask the security guard in the building to open the front door downstairs if necessary.

The same AYY’s user rules apply to this facility. The only exception is that you do not have to fill out the checklist and the consumption of alcohol is prohibited in the facility. There is no running water or dishes, although you are allowed to consume meeting refreshments. After you have used the facility, you must clean the room and take all your items with you. Aalto University or AYY are not responsible for items you have left behind.

You can book the facility at booking.aalto.fi by logging in with Aalto username. After this, you can find the facility below ”Tilakalenteri/AYY” title in the facility menu on the left, in the section ”Otaniemi /  AYY”. Please also remember to choose ”U90202 AYY-yhteistyĂ¶â€ as the responsible unit when making the reservation. You can also make recurrent reservations for the facility. Write the name of the association or the guild as the reservation name if you make a reservation for your association or guild.

AYY’s Lauri Lehtoruusu appointed to SYL Executive Board for the year of 2015

Student of Architecture Lauri Lehtoruusu has been elected as a member for the Executive Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for the year of 2015.

Currently, Lehtoruusu acts as the Chairperson of AYY Board. Previously, Lehtoruusu has acted as the chairperson and vice chairperson of the Guild of Architecture, a member of AYY’s Representative Council and as the chief editor of May Day magazine Äpy.

”This in incredible! A big thank you to all who had faith in me” rejoices Lehtoruusu after his election and continues: ”Next year, we will have an astonishing team making a better tomorrow for students – I promise to bring some forward-looking attitude from AYY.”

“Lauri is the James Bond of the student movement and it feels so right that Lauri will promote the interests of students in one of the most influential Finnish organisations next year”, says AYY’s Secretary General Janne Koskenniemi. ”All Blofelds in education policy should watch out!”

Next year, SYL Executive Board will be chaired by Jari JÀrvenpÀÀ (Tamy). Other members of the Executive Board are Janne HÀlinen (Student Union of the University of Lapland LYY), Paula Martikainen (Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland ISYY), Jussi Nieminen (Student Union of the University of Turku TYY), Iiris Niinikoski (Student Union of the University of Helsinki HYY) and Silja Silvasti (Student Union of the University of JyvÀskylÀ JYY).

The SYL General Assembly was held at Korpilampi in Espoo on Friday and Saturday 21–22 November. Decisions were also made regarding next years’ strategy. The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of SYL, with representatives from all 15 university student unions in Finland.

The time has come to reward the learning promotion deed and the international deed of the year. Has a professor of yours, a student association or someone else done something special to enhance learning or internationalization in Aalto? AYY elected the former of the Board and Chairperson of the Representative Council for 2015

The Representative Council of Aalto University Student Union (AYY) appointed the former of the Board and Chairperson of the Representative Council for the year 2015 at its meeting on 5 Nov.

The fifth year student of network economics Niko Ferm was elected as the former of the Board. This year, Ferm has acted in AYY Board being responsible for communications, organisations and facilities. Previously, he has led Aalto Community Section Aava, among other things.

”My feelings after the election are incredible, but my thoughts are quickly moving on to the forming of the Board. I want to form a diverse Board whichs represent all Aalto schools,” Ferm descibres right after his election. ”Next year, our campus will become even richer along with the campus development and new students. AYY Board and the entire organisation must contribute to the creation of a member-oriented and dynamic community, where we can all learn from each other!”

The former of the Board makes a proposal to the Representative Council on the composition of the Student Union Board for the next year. The Representative Council will elect the new Board at the board meeting on Thursday, 27 Nov 2014.

The first year doctoral student of materials science and engineering Iiro Lehtiniemi was elected as the chairperson of the Representative Council. This year, Lehtiniemi has acted as the 2nd Vice Chair of the Representative Council. Previously, he has acted as AYY’s volunteer, elected official and employee, official in the Guild of Mining and Metallurgy Students and Prosessiteekkarit, as well as in the Board of the subject organisation X.

“It’s great that I can bring my experience to the student union’s use” Lehtiniemi says.

Aalto University Student Union AYY is a service and interest organisation for approximately 15,000 Aalto University students. AYY represents its members’ interests in education and social policy issues, in particular. The Representative Council is AYY’s highest decision-making body, which elects the student union board and decides on the budget, among other things.

Become a student representative in university administration for the year 2015

Call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University

The Aalto University Student Union has decided on 31 October 2014 to open a call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University to the joint administrative bodies and the working groups of Aalto University. The term begins immediately after the nomination and lasts until the end of the year 2015. Students of Aalto University can apply for the position of the student representative in administration.

The application period will begin on 31 October 2014 and end on 30 November 2014 at 23.59. by which the applications must be delivered. In Aalto University School of Business administration bodies the application period will end on 12 December at 16.00. The application is completed electronically. The electronic application forms are available at the website https://www.halloped.fi/en/aalto/calls. The instructions for applying are available at Aalto University Student Union website at /en/student-union/student-advocacy/student-representatives/.

The Student Union wishes that the applicants also include international degree students as well as representatives of both genders and various schools. The working language in the bodies of University is Finnish unless otherwise stated in the description of the body.

The Board of the Aalto University Student Union will appoint the student representatives to the administration at its meeting on 17 December 2014.
