The Representative Council of Aalto University Student Union (AYY) appointed the Student Union Board for the year of 2015 at its meeting on Monday, 30 Nov 2015. Sixth year student of applied physics and mathematics Milja Asikainen was appointed as the chairperson of the Board. This year, Ms Asikainen has been a member of AYY Board being responsible for international affairs and trilingualism. Previously, she has had positions of trust in the Guild of Physics and she has been TEK’s student representative in administration.

Other nine (9) members of AYY Board are:

In the coming year, AYY will particularly focus on the review of its own activities, development of operations management and themes related to equality. ”This group has a wide range of expertise from many different perspectives and I am sure that we will have great achievements next year!”, says Ms Asikainen.

The Board’s term of office begins in January and lasts for a calendar year. The new Board is organised at its first meeting. Aalto University Student Union AYY is a service and advocacy organisation for approximately 15,000 Aalto University students. AYY acts as the advocate of its members in academic and social affairs, in particular.

AYY’s Heikki Koponen appointed as SYL’s President for the year of 2016.

Aalto University Student Union AYY’s Heikki Koponen has been elected as President of the National Union of University Students in Finland for the year of 2016.

Heikki Koponen is a 24-year-old strategic management student. This year, he has acted as Vice Chair of AYY Board and has been responsible for the management of AYY’s extensive advocacy sector. Previously, he has acted as Vice Chair of AYY’s Representative Council and Chair of the Board of the Guild of Industrial Engineering and Management Prodeko.

”My current feelings are a mixture of happiness and confusion. With the new Board, we will build better higher education with the attitude and energy that is only found in the student movement,” says Heikki Koponen right after his election.

Other six members in SYL Board in 2016 include Alviina Alametsä (HYY), Ella Keski-Panula (HYY), Tuomas Kuoppala (Tamy), Annu Komulainen (JYY), Mia Lehto (LTKY) and Siiri Nousiainen (OYY).

The two-day general assembly of SYL was held in Korpilampi, Espoo, on Friday and Saturday on 20–21 November. SYL represents the Finnish university students at the national level and takes a stand on educational, social and international issues.

AYY elected the former of the Board and Chairperson of the Representative Council for 2016

The Representative Council of Aalto University Student Union (AYY) appointed the former of the Board and Chairperson of the Representative Council for the year 2016 at its meeting on 16 Nov.

The sixth year student of physics Milja Asikainen was elected as the former of the Board. This year, Ms Asikainen has acted in AYY Board being responsible for international affairs and trilingualism.

”Next year, AYY will focus on making our student union and community more accessible and closer to all the members,” Ms Asikainen envisions right after her election. ”The best way to achieve this objective is to have a Board, which is filled with a variety of backgrounds, opinions and ways to act.”

The former of the Board makes a proposal to the Representative Council on the composition of the Student Union Board for the next year. The Representative Council will elect the new Board at the board meeting on Monday, 30 Nov 2015.

The fourth year student of electrical engineering Pietu Roisko was elected as the Chairperson of the Representative Council for the year of 2016. During the previous Representative Council term, Mr Roisko acted as the chairperson of Polytekarna Representative Council group. Previously, he has been active in Teknologföreningen association, for example.

”In the coming year, we will train and initiate an even more enthusiastic Representative Council,” Mr Roisko says.

Aalto University Student Union AYY is a service and interest organisation for approximately 15,000 Aalto University students. AYY represents its members’ interests in education and social policy issues, in particular. The Representative Council is AYY’s highest decision-making body, which elects the student union board and decides on the budget, among other things.

Call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University

The Aalto University Student Union has decided on 9 Nov 2015 to open the call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University to the joint administrative bodies and the working groups of Aalto University for the year of 2016. Students of Aalto University can apply for the position of the student representative in administration.

The application period will begin on 9 Nov 2015 at 10 a.m. and end on 6 Dec 2015 at 23.59 p.m. by which the applications must be delivered. The application is completed electronically. The electronic application forms are available at the website https://www.halloped.fi/fi . The instructions for applying are available at the recruitment website for the volunteers at Aalto University at /en/student-union/student-advocacy/student-representatives/ .

Information on the names of the applicants and their applications is disclosed to the special status associations of the Aalto University Student Union for providing recommendations in the selection of student representatives in the administration of the university represented by the associations.

The Student Union wishes that the applicants also include international degree students as well as representatives of both genders and various schools. The working language in the bodies of University is Finnish unless otherwise stated in the description of the body.

The Student Union organizes training for new representatives of every school on Jan 2016.

The Board of the Aalto University Student Union will appoint the student representatives to the administration at its meeting on 17 Dec 2015.

Major changes to private car and public transport in Otaniemi

The construction of the New Building (Väre) of Aalto University and the modification of the campus area centre in Otaniemi will be fully launched in December 2015. Preparations have already been made throughout the summer and autumn.

The renovation and area improvement will take about two-and-a-half years, and the work site will cut Otaniementie from Vuorimiehentie to Tietotie. Pedestrian traffic, private car and public transport will be rerouted when Otaniementie is cut on Friday, 18 December.

Most of the public transport from Kehä I will be rerouted to Tekniikantie–Vuorimiehentie–Otaniementie. Most of Otakaari public transport will be rerouted to Otakaari–Dipoli–Otaniementie. The changes apply to Espoo-internal lines 10 and 15 as well as regional lines 102, 103, 194, 195, 501V, 506, 510, 550 and 552. Private car traffic and pedestrian traffic will be rerouted with traffic signs and guides. The street construction and communication related to the changes are being prepared.
