4. AYY’s statement on Aalto’s campus discussion

The campus solution of Aalto University, planned for the summer of 2011, has provoked much debate at the university, in the student union and other interest groups. There are various views of the best campus solution within Aalto’s student community, which can be roughly divided into two: one common campus in Espoo, Otaniemi, or a decentralised campus along the metro line. Both options have both advantages and challenges. The widely accepted common view is, however, that moving both physically between the various units and within different fields of study should be effortless.

In AYY’s opinion, learning and research environments, meeting places, services, public transport and housing provided by the campus solution are more important than the physical location. Aalto University’s campus should be something unique, compelling and outstanding, and it should also be appealing to those outside our academic community.

Read AYY’s statement in its entirety at AYY.fi.

5. Apply for AYY’s anniversary committee 2012

If a student’s income exceeded the annual income limit in 2010, one may voluntarily return excess student grants and housing supplements by 31 March. When the excess aid is returned by the deadline, you can avoid the recovery of the aid increased by a 15 %. Another advantage is that the student can choose the months which are returned. Higher education students can reuse the returned months.

The annual income limit is defined by the months when the student receives the aid. If the student has received student financial aid for 9 months, the annual income limit is 11,850 euro. You can check your own income limit at Kela’s electronic services (available in Finnish and Swedish).

More specific information on the topic is available on KELA’s website. You can also call students’ service number 020 692 209, Mon–Fri, 8am–6pm.

2. Work at Gravitation party!

Gravitation party is here again. In order for us to organise the party, we need plenty of lovely people to work!

This year, Gravitation will be organised on 8 March at The Circus and the performers include Goon and Jenni Vartiainen.

We are now looking for ticket sellers and a few van drivers and people in charge of catering.

People in charge of catering are responsible for providing food for the bands and the employees at the party. Van drivers will drive the van and help to carry equipment from Otaniemi to Circus and back. Van drivers work in two shifts so the same people do not have to spend the whole day and night driving around. Ticket sellers must sell tickets for one hour on the party day either at Ullis or Circus or they can have two two-hour shifts in the week preceding the party. The more specific working hours are agreed on when we find the employees.

More specific information on the event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=109528735790839&ref=ts

If you are interested in one of these duties, please contact Lakinlaskijaiset Director Anu Juvonen (anu.juvonen@ayy.fi) or May Day Director Lauri Ikonen (lauri.ikonen@ayy.fi). The same people are glad to answer any questions you might have.

In return, you will get a free entrance to the party, an overall badge and an entrance to the party arranged for employees. In addition, you have the opportunity to get the desired pink ribbon of the party committee, the precondition for the ribbon is to work in two parties.
