3.Sign up for the audience at Election Battle!

The most interesting battle in the autumn will take place at Election Battle on 25 Oct, 7pm-9pm. The battle gathers the representatives of electoral alliances in the same studio. Do you want to be in the audience at Election Battle? Registration will begin at 2pm on Tuesday, 18 Oct and the fastest 40 people can watch the thriller at Aate studio (address JÀmerÀntaival 3A, basement). 4. Tradition party of technology students on 4 Nov

Teekkari Section has the pleasure and honour to invite all technology students and their friends to the tradition party which will be celebrated in the anniversary spirit of the former TKY. The party is a unique opportunity to experience the old traditions of technology students, without forgetting the humour of technology students.

The dinner with festive traditions will be enjoyed at Dipoli on Friday, 4 Nov, from 6pm onwards. The price of the dinner card for students is 80 euro and 100 euro for the graduates.

6. Workshops to support studies in the autumn of 2011 and the spring of 2012

In the autumn of 2011 and the spring of 2012, the following workshops will be arranged to support the studies of undergraduates at Aalto University:

Otetta opiskeluun (‘get a grip on your studies’) workshop

The group is intended for students who are struggling with their studies; they might find it difficult to start study projects or run out of energy to finish assignments.

Meetings on Tuesdays, 8 Nov- 29 Nov, 12noon-2pm, Teemu Kerppu at Learning Lab (Vuorimiehentie 2). Please sign up no later than 1 Nov (see more information below).

Stressi hallintaan (stress management) workshop

The objective of the workshop is to support coping and help to identify suitable stress management methods for yourself.

Meetings on Fridays, 4 Nov-18 Nov and 2 Dec, 10am-12noon in Arkadia building of the School of Economics, classroom E-012. Please sign up no later than 31 Oct (see more information below).

Tools for anxious situations

The workshop is intended for students whose anxiety affects their studies and who would like to find tools for coping with anxiety.

Meetings on Fridays, 27 Jan-2 March, 10am-12noon in Otaniemi (location to be confirmed). Please sign up no later than 13 Jan.

7. Join AYY-Kehy for a trip to Africa

AYY-Kehy is arranging a two-week, development and business focused study trip to Swaziland to our Sponsor Project. The trip will take place in late February 2012. (Initially 24.02 – 09.03.2012)

We are going to hand pick 15 enthusiastic Aalto University students, who show a keen interest in development cooperation issues. The main themes of the trip are to learn about practical development and the African business life. The trip offers students the opportunity to give one’s contribution by volunteering at our Project.

The forthcoming voyage program is divided into two parts:

The first week is going to be spent in Swaziland exploring the sponsor project: This means doing voluntary work (including renovation and construction) for the operations center and the local community. During the second week we will be exploring other nearby destinations, (Mozambique, Johannesburg, etc.,) where we will visit the local attractions, firms, and also spend time soaking up the African sun.

The initial budget for the travel is about 1200 € / person. BUT DO NOT WORRY: We will cover some of the travel costs in co-operation with the Student Unions as well as business partners.With diligent effort, the voyage could end up costing 0€ of your own money.

8. Trainee Programmes recruiting event

Wednesday, 19 October, from 10.30am to 2pm, at TUAS (Otaniementie 17, Espoo).

Are you making career choices and want to know more about job descriptions and companies before applying? Would you like to deepen your expertise, share your knowledge and have a comprehensive insight into the company? Many employers offer the possibility to participate in a Trainee Program, which give you a chance to learn about the organisation’s working culture and the diverse tasks the company has to offer. Learn more about different trainee programs in our event at TUAS building on Wed 19 October. The programmes are particularly directed at the students of Automation and Systems Technology, Computer Science and Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Management.

Career Services is also organising a CV clinic from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Visit the clinic and get tips for your CV!

9. Ongoing application period for Stratos 2012

The application period for international business Stratos 2012 trainee programme has began!

Are you interested in international business, business contacts and a free study trip abroad? Are you at the end of your studies and study economics as your major or minor subject at Aalto University? If you answered yes to the previously-mentioned questions, check out the programme in more detail at www.remburssi.org/stratos and send your application.

The programme will be arranged during the spring of 2012 and it includes an assignment of 3-6 credits for the company, corporate visits and a week-long study journey to a distant business location.

The deadline for application is 23 Oct 2011!

10. OtaKoppi gathers a women’s baseball group – join the team!

OtaKoppi is a baseball association operating within Aalto University Student Union, which now gathers a women’s team to play in a regional league next summer. We need more players to complete the team. You don’t necessarily need previous experience on playing in a team/league, but sportiveness and enthusiasm will get you far. However, it is recommended that you are familiar with baseball in some way. This is also an excellent opportunity to get back to baseball after your junior years or if you need a more relaxed team after more serious ones.

2. 343 candidates in AYY’s Representative Council elections, nearly one-tenth of whom international students

In AYY’s Representative Council elections, 343 persons ran as candidates, nearly one-tenth of whom are international students. The Central Election Committee confirmed the master list of candidates at its meeting on 6 Oct 2011, which you can view on the election website or the Student Union website. Comments on the list of candidates must be made no later than 12noon on Wednesday, 12 Oct 2011.

3. Don’t guess – watch the Election Battle and vote!

AYY’s Representative Council elections are approaching! Who will decide on what your membership fees are spent and what are the views of your student union? The most interesting battle of the autumn will take place in the Election Battle which gathers together in the same studio the representatives of electoral coalitions to a fierce war of words on 25 Oct, 7pm-9pm. Presenters are Aino magazine journalist Johanna Mitjonen and Aate-media journalist Maria Viitanen.

Who is beautiful? Watch! Aate offers the exciting battle to your couch as a live broadcast in prime time. Who is bold? Participate! Send your own tough questions or comments. Surf to aatemedia.fi.

4. Second application round of AYY’s exchange scholarship

AYY will grant exchange scholarships for the second time this year. The exchange scholarship is intended to support the internationalisation of our members through student exchange. The amount of the scholarship depends on the exchange location, the amount was between 400–800 euro in the last round . When granting the scholarships, we take into account the applicant’s academic performance and activities in Aalto community.

The application period is 1–30 November, scholarships worth of 10,000 euro will be allocated in the second round. Applications are submitted electronically through AYY’s application form system. The beginning of the application period will be announced again through AYY’s various communication channels.

5. AYY is looking for a sales coordinator

AYY is looking for a sales coordinator for an open-ended part-time position. The job description will include maintaining AYY’s corporate relations, being responsible for planning and organising of the corporate relations of our student union, acquiring, maintaining and developing cooperation agreements, as well as the advertisement sales of Aino magazine. 6. Participate in making your university’s student magazine Aino

Dear Aalto member! On Thursday, 13 Oct, we will arrange Aino’s assistant meeting. See you at the editorial office of Aino in Otaniemi at 4pm. The address is Otakaari 11.

What do I have to do? 1) Sign up no later than 12 Oct by sending a message to toimitus@ayy.fi. 2) Before the meeting, please read the latest Aino 3) Come to the meeting and bring one article idea with you.

Please note that unlike mentioned in the academic year calendar, the assistant meeting will NOT be arranged on Saturday, 15 Oct, BUT already on Thursday, 13 Oct.

7. Take your Tutor group with you to explore Experience Aalto! event

AFYE i.e. Aalto First Year Experience will arrange an event called Experience Aalto! to all the students and personnel at Aalto Univesity on 18 October 2011, starting at 4pm. The primary target audience is new Aalto students. Experience Aalto! event will be held simultaneously on Arabia, Otaniemi and Töölö campuses. The theme of the event will be mobility, both internal (Otaniemi campus) and international (Töölö campus). There will be amazing workshops and campus walks on Arabia campus.

The aim of the event is to encourage Aalto University students and personnel to visit the different Aalto campuses and receive important information on their own possibilities to study at Aalto University. The event will be held from 4pm until 8pm, and it will continue at Design Factory in Otaniemi until 11pm. The program leaflet will be published and distributed to students after 10 Oct 2011

8. Funding available for international student projects

Aalto International Relations (IR) has reserved funding to enhance internationalisation and development of international and intercultural competence of Aalto students.

9. Longer opening hours in café Elissa

The opening hours of Café Elissa in Otaniemi, Otakaari 1 (former main building of the School of Science and Technology) have been extended as follows:

  • Mon-Thu, 7.30am-7.30pm
  • Fri, 7.30am-4pm

10. National Failure Day, 13 Oct

11. AIESEC Work abroad programme

12. Metal Club MökÀ presents: SLAVES TO THE GRIND

The highlight of the autumn of Metal Club MökÀ, Servin Mökki band and video night, is approaching. The doom nuance of the previous festival has now changed to merciless grind. We have four excellent bands performing in this members-only private party with free admission (although the membership is free and you can join through our website). Smökki has rarely seen such an extensive selection of heavier music. The event will be arranged on Friday, 14 Oct, 7pm onwards. The bands come from across Finland but we also have some groups that have performed in major events. The following artists will perform in the event:

  • The event will begin with Cast to Wolves.
  • The next band on the stage is Blastanus.
  • The next band is GAF that has performed at Tuska festival, for example.
  • The final band of the night, also played at Tuska, is Feastem.

After the bands, we will continue and relax in the after party sauna at Gorsu located on the other side of the road. You can bring your own drinks to Smökki and also take your sauna gear for the after sauna. At Gorsu, we will provide some refreshments for our members. However, we do not sell alcohol.

2. Still time to run as a candidate in AYY’s Representative Council elections

The nomination of candidates for AYY’s Representative Council elections will end at 12noon on Wed, 5 Oct. In the elections, all the student union members registered for attendance may vote and run as a candidate. The Representative Council of 45 members has the highest decision-making power in the Student Union. See more specific instructions on the nomination of candidates at /vaalit/candidates/?lang=en

3. Apply for the position of election officer soon

Apply for the position of election officer in AYY’s Representative Council elections by Fri, 7 Oct. Election officers will conduct the ballot in the Representative Council elections on Wed, 2 Nov, 10am–4pm, and complete the vote count at the polling stations. Officers are still needed especially in Pori and Lahti (travel expenses will be covered) but you can also apply for Arabia and Otaniemi polling stations. The position requires carefulness and the Finnish language skills, among other things.

Election committee members are paid a one-off fee of €100 (€150 for chairpersons).

4. Come and discuss with Esa HyvÀrinen, Sauli Niinistö and Johan Rockström

On 2 Nov, 6pm-9.30pm, Aalto University Student Union will arrange its first Aalto Thinks seminar which objective is to bring together national and international decision-makers to discuss current social topics with students. The first event will take place at Aalto Venture garage at Betonimiehenkuja 3. The theme will be planetary boundaries. Our guests include Esa HyvÀrinen, Sauli Niinistö and a Swedish researcher Johan Rockström. 5. Apply for the position of student representative in Aalto University administration

On 23 Sept 2011, Aalto University Student Union has decided to open the call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University to the joint administrative bodies and the working groups of Aalto University for the year of 2011. The students of Aalto University can apply for the position of the student representative in administration.

There are available positions in the following committees:

  • University’s Committee for Academic Affairs
  • Academic Committee of Art and Design
  • Academic Committee of Chemical Technology
  • Education Council of Electronics and Communications
  • Master’s Programme Committee at the School of Electrical Engineering

6. Third application round of TTE-Fund

This year’s third application round of TTER (fund for promoting teekkari activities) is open now. The purpose of the fund is to distribute grands and thus support the efforts of the student union, its members and the communities and associations within the student union. You can apply for the grants with a separate application. The deadline for applications is Sunday, 9 Oct, 11.59pm.

Instructions on the application and the attachments are available on the website of the fund at tter.ayy.fi. The website also includes other information related to the fund – visit the website even if you do not have the need for a grant right now!

7. Kassi – online marketplace for Aalto members

Kassi is a communal and free online marketplace for Aalto University students and personnel, where you can buy, sell, rent and give away goods, search for housing, offer and ask for help from others and arrange carpooling. Through Kassi, you can conveniently find apartments and furniture, get rid of your old school books and borrow a drill from your neighbour. Through the service, you can also offer and request help ranging from computer problems to carrying removal boxes.

8. Slush student tickets on sale now

Student tickets for technology and start-up conference Slush can be purchased at slush.fi

Student card holders can purchase their tickets for 25 euro, including warm meals on two days and the after party. Slush will be arranged at Kaapelitehdas on 2-3 November. The event is an opportunity to explore the start-up world, learn about novelties in the industry and meet plenty of companies and people in the field.

9. Still a few weeks to participate in Teekkari Photo 2011 contest

Teekkari Photo 2011 is a photo contest for all Aalto University students registered for attendance. The contest with the theme ”technology student’s life at Aalto University” encourages you to capture the best moments in the autumn of a technology student. All Aalto University students can participate in the contest. The competition period is 23 Aug-23 Oct 2011. The best pictures will be rewarded! 2. Aate invites students to the brainstorming event Kellarista Kulttuurikeskukseksi

The premises which were previously known as OUBS are located in Otaniemi, JĂ€merĂ€ntaival 1. The operations of OUBS were discontinued on 31 May 2011 and AYY’s new audiovisual media Aate began its operations on 1 June 2011. In addition to television programme production, the goal of Aate is to act as an open arena for the students’ various cultural projects. Aate wants to serve as many Aalto members as possible who are interested in arts, culture and audiovisual expression.

A functioning cultural centre needs to be surrounded by enthusiastic people, and therefore Aate invites you to the brainstorming event KELLARISTA KULTTUURIKESKUKSEKSI: YHTEISEN AATTEEN ASIALLA.

In the informal event we will consider how Aate could enrich AYY’s cultural life. Music, theatre, poems, films, photos, yoga, sculpture… it is up to YOU. So please come to Aate (JĂ€merĂ€ntaival 1 A, basement) at 7pm on Monday, 3 Oct 2011!

3. Wanted: the Best International Teacher 2011

Have you encountered an excellent lecturer at Aalto or a supervisor who is completely dedicated to one’s students? Does your dazzling teacher deserve recognition for his or her work?

AYY grants the award for the best foreign-language teacher. Students are invited to suggest any person who teaches at Aalto in a language other than Finnish or Swedish. Please send your suggestion by 4pm on 4 October to the address international@ayy.fi. Please include brief justification why this teacher should be selected to win the award.

The prize will be awarded in the celebration of international students on 12 Nov. With the award, AYY wants to draw attention to the importance of quality foreign-language teaching. We will raffle off two pairs of Finnkino movie tickets among those who send a proposal for the best teacher.

4. Exercise Stress Away course

Exercise Stress Away course is aimed at students and it will begin in FSHS Töölö Health Centre on 5 Oct, 2.30pm-4pm. The course will be arranged once a week between 5 Oct and 23 Nov 2011. The duration of the sessions is 1.5 hours. The course will take place in the sports facilities of AK floor on FSHS Töölö Health Centre, Töölönkatu 37 A.

The course includes 8 dates when you can try out different sports and relaxation exercises and hear about issues related to stress management. The purpose of the course is to find the connection between physical activities and stress management. The course is a great way to begin exercising for the first time or after a long break!

The course is organised as a cooperation of FSHS and AYY. The instructors are FSHS physiotherapist Kati Kauppala and AYY’s Sports Specialist, Physical Education Instructor Karoliina Sarkkula. The course is free but requires commitment. We charge a 15 euro fee for uncancelled classes!

12 students are accepted to the course.

5. Give feedback on Aalto University premises and win Jopo bike or iPad

Let your voice be heard and tell Aalto University real estates what you think about the university premises and the campus area. We will draw JOPO bike (value 373e) and iPad (value 597 e) among all respondents. The draw date is 17 Oct.

6. Students graduating in 2011-2012, participate in MoA exhibition

MoA info session, 30 Sept 2011, School of Art and Design, HĂ€meentie 135 C, 8th floor, great lecture hall 822, Friday, 30 Sept, 9.30am-10.30am.

MoA event has been organised since 2000. Last spring, in addition to art students, other students also had the opportunity to participate in the heart of the event, the exhibition.Come and hear how your thesis could be best presented to the public in the three-week event in May.

We will tell you, among other things, how to participate in the exhibition, the schedule for the winter, what opportunities participation provides for you and what does it require of you. In addition, you will meet the working group of MoA and other graduating students.

7. Students’ Support Centre Nyyti’s web groups to begin on Monday, 26 Sept

In our guided web groups, you can discuss life as a single, loneliness and break-up. 8. Nyyti’s survey for new students about the beginning of studies

A survey for new students is published on Nyyti’s website, which will chart new students’ experiences of the academic world and their adaptation. It will only take a few minutes to respond to the survey. Popular Nyyti bags and memory sticks will be raffled off among those who respond to the survey.

9. Paint the walls

Come and transform Otaniemi construction site into graffiti walls on Friday, 30 Sept. Painting will begin at Alvari Square at 12noon and continue as long as there is daylight and enthusiasm. AYY provides the paints. From you, we expect nothing but attitude and courage to create.

10. Montaasi narrow-film course,7-9 Oct

The legendary narrow-film course of Film Club Montaasi will be arranged on the weekend on 7-9 Oct! The basic course of film making includes script writing, visual narrative, lighting and the basics of filming. During the weekend, we also brainstorm and film short-films to 8mm film in groups. The course provides a unique opportunity to shoot on a narrow-film which is getting rarer every year.

11. First Date Sitsit

All the leaves are brown and the sky is grey, people from Aalto ES are dreaming of California but you are dreaming of her, dreaming of him, and wondering if you should take that special one on a date
 Or maybe have you been in a relationship for so long that you have even forgotten how to hit on someone? Well in any case, the International Section of AYY offers you a perfect training with the First Date Sitsit!

How would you dress up for the first date with the woman or the man of your dreams? Rather smoking and martini or Naked Man technique? Review the best Barney Stinson tips, sharpen your funniest pick-up lines and release the George Clooney, the Scarlett Johansson
 or the Borat in you and discover the Finnish sitsit culture (sitsit = a traditional student party with singing, drinking, eating and having fun) at Smökki on October 6 starting from 18:00. Afterparty will be held in Rantasauna.

Tickets cost 15€ (13€ without alcohol) and will be sold in the main building of Otaniemi Campus from 26.9 to 3.10 between 11:00 and 13:00. Please bring cash with you. We have 90 seats for international students.

2. AYY’s Representative Council Elections, 25 Oct-2 Nov 2011

Aalto University Student Union will appoint its Representative Council for the next two-year term in October–November. The Representative Council of 45 members is elected by proportional vote and has the Student Union’s highest decision-making power. All student union members are entitled to run as candidates and vote in the elections.

Apply for the position of election officer in AYY’s Representative Council Elections

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) is looking for election officers to conduct the ballot elections of the Representative Council Elections on Wed, 2 Nov, 10am–4pm, on six polling stations (Arabia, Otaniemi, Töölö, Lahti, Mikkeli and Pori). The duties of the election committee include, among other things, the conduction of the elections and the vote count after the election process has been completed.

We primarily take into consideration the applicants who have previously acted as election officers but other applicants also have an excellent chance to be selected. The committee members receive a lump sum of €100 (€150 to chairpersons).

3. Apply for the union meeting delegation of SYL

SYL, the National Union of University Students in Finland, is the association of the Finnish student unions, which represents the Finnish university students in national decision making. The board, which is appointed annually, implements the action plan and the policy paper which guide the advocacy work of SYL. The policy paper and the action plan will be approved in the union meeting where the board is also elected. The union meeting of the year 2011 will be held in HyvinkÀÀ on 18–19 November.

In the union meeting, AYY is represented by a delegation which includes 14 actual members and 14 vice members. The delegation will be chosen through an open application, so that the board will select 5+5 and the Representative Council groups select 9+9 delegates. 4. Participate in the organising of CUMULUS student seminar

Cumulus (Cumulus International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media) was founded in 1990 by the University of Art and Design Helsinki TAIK with Royal College of Art London. Cumulus will arrange a conference in Helsinki in the spring on 24–26 May 2012. In this connection, a two-day student seminar will be arranged on 22–23 May 2012. AYY is looking for a working group for the student seminar to organise the seminar and be in charge of its contents and programme. The student seminar will be arranged in cooperation with the General Secretariat of Cumulus and the call for applications is open to all Aalto University students.

Students have never before had the opportunity to participate in the global Cumulus conferences. Along with the student conference, you have the opportunity to take part in the conference as well as create the student meeting and make them a part of Cumulus conference at the same time.

5. TRADITIONAL SELL GAMES IN OTANIEMI AGAIN!

Aalto University Sports Club and Aalto University Student Union have the honour to organise one of the largest and most international student sporting events of the coming year in Otaniemi, Espoo, on 17–20 May 2012. Traditional SELL Student Games are a multi-sport event open to all university students around the world. There are no age limits or level requirements and the event offers sports and opponents to sports enthusiasts on all levels. The event represents student sporting, fun times together and networking at their best! The registration for the games will begin on 15 November 2011. APPLY FOR SELL2012 working group

SELL 2012 working group will be the group which brainstorms and implements SELL 2012 games. The working group will be searched and interviewed by the middle of October. The working group will begin its operations immediately after the selection and their work will end at the big party after the games in May 2012.

We are looking for 8 people for the working group, each of which will be responsible for the implementation of their own area of responsibility (/blog/2011/09/12/hae-sell2012-%E2%80%93tyoryhmaan/). The work requires responsibility but it is also relaxed and independent. The working group will work under the management of the secretary general of the games. Later in the autumn and the next spring, plenty of helping hands will be recruited to help the working group. A total of approximately 250 volunteers will work in various tasks in the games.

6. Outdoor Movie – it’s just so cool

This fall, Aalto Outdoor Movie Night offers you a chance to enjoy a classic outdoor movie! On 21 Sept, starting at 7.30pm, Alvari Square in Otaniemi will turn into a huge outdoor cinema where it’s easy to camp out with friends and let the big projector do the rest of the work. Popcorn and soft drinks will be provided but bringing warm clothes/seating with you is highly recommended. If the weather looks stormy, the movie theatre with its popcorn machine will move to Design Factory.

The people have spoken and the winner movie is Exit Through The Gift Shop. It tells about the street/graffiti artist, Banksy, and his extraordinary lifestyle.

7. Syyskiima 2011 – Thursday, 22 Sept, 5pm

The smash hit party, KevĂ€tkiima, is making a comeback. Last time, we celebrated spring fever with 500 people at Jenny Woo – now it is time to escape the ever colder days to Cuba on 22 September starting at 5pm. 8. Nominate new members to the Guild of the Round Tower

Nominations for the honorary members can be made until 10 Oct, 10.11am, to the address ehdota-arwoisia@list.ayy.fi. The nomination should include the name and the photo of the nominated person and the possible grounds for the nomination and the proposer(s).

You can nominate persons who are nearing the end of their studies or who have recently graduated, and who have actively operated within the community of technology students and shown continuous enthusiasm and interest towards technology students’ culture and other student union activities and promoted development in the student union or in the associations operating under the student union.

9. Helsinki Region Welcome Weeks in the metropolitan area, 19 Sept–2 Oct 2011

During the Welcome Weeks, expats of all nationalities and their families are given information on living in Finland and are offered a chance to build their social networks through various activities offered alongside the more informational events. 10. Builders of the Future design contest

Aalto University is organising a design contest for a memorial to the donors who provided funds for the University’s endowment capital. The contest is open to Aalto students, staff members and alumni and both individual and team submissions are welcome.

Do you dare to rethink the memorial? Are you interested in making a contest proposal in a multidisciplinary team?

Noppa is a handy tool for everyday course work and communication and it is composed of home pages of courses. 5. Ongoing search for name ideas for the new Aalto school

The University of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture will form a new school to Aalto University. Suggest a name for the new school and participate in the search for the name of the new school! The contest is open to everyone – students, personnel, alumni, partners and the public. The contest period is 5–23 Sept 2011. You can submit as many suggestions as you wish.

6. Ballgame leagues of the autumn will begin, sign up by 22 Sept

From now on, UniSport will be responsible for organising Aalto University’s ballgame leagues (former Teekkari leagues).

The leagues generally consist of teams of subject organisations, guilds, tutor groups or groups of friends. The staff is also welcome to join. Although the teams compete, the emphasis is on fair play, relaxation and community spirit. The university leagues are not to be taken too seriously.

The league games are played in Otahalli, Kumpula Sports Centre and Töölö ballgame field. The best team of the University of Helsinki or Aalto University in each ballgame league can represent one’s school in Finnish Student Championships.

NB! UniSport does not insure players. You should make sure that your insurance is in order.

Participation in the leagues does not require a season card. The only fee is a team-specific league fee.

7. Improvisation and dance courses of Teekkarispeksi

THROW YOUSELF INTO THE FASCINATING WORLD OF IMPROVISATION

Teekkarispeksi will again arrange improvisation courses both for beginners and more experienced. The beginner’s course is suitable for everyone and does not require any previous experience from performing, theatre or improvisation – you will only need enthusiasm and humour!

Courses will start on week 38 and include a total of eight three-hour improvisation sessions. The total price for the members of Teekkarispeksi is 30 euro and to others 35 euro. The course schedule is as follows:

  • Beginner’s A, Tuesdays, 4pm–7pm
  • Beginner’s B, Thursdays 7pm–10pm
  • Advanced C, Tuesdays 7pm–10pm
  • Advanced D, Thursdays 4pm–7pm

COME AND DANCE IN TEEKKARISPEKSI COURSES

Courses are held on Wednesdays, from week 38 onwards, as follows:

  • Beginners course, 5.15pm–6.30pm (does not require previous experience, lessons start off with the basics)
  • Intermediate course, 6.30pm–7.45pm (requires 1-5 years of dance experience).
  • Advanced course, 7.45pm-9.15pm (requires intensive dance studies from several years).

The courses cost 15 euro for Teekkarispeksi members and 20 euro for others for the whole autumn. The dancers for Teekkarispeksi 2012 production will be selected based on dance tests arranged after the dance courses but participation in a course does not bind you to anything.

8. Teekkari tennis cheerleaders for Davis Cup, 16–18 Sept

Teekkari tennis cheerleaders will take over the fan seating area on 16–18 September and encourage the Finnish team to victory!

Mission: Having 100–200 club members of Tete tennis club, other Aalto members and other youthful tennis enthusiasts, particularly students, in our cheerleader team. Fantastic cheers, attitude and fun that we have not seen before in Finland!

Carrot: Free tickets (Fri–Sun) to Davis Cup, meals, opportunity to meet with the Finnish team in person, great atmosphere, fame and glory!

9. Dominante, Helsinki Academic Male Choir and Polytech Choir are looking for singers

The next audition of the mixed choir Dominante will be arranged on Thursday, 15 Sept, in Hall AS2 of TUAS building located at Otaniementie 17. The audition tests note reading skills and the register, among other things. In addition, singers must perform one song of their choice. Aalto student, welcome to join the Dialogue – New Work project! In the dialogue project, students and companies together create future work. Nine visionary companies want to have a dialogue with you: Accenture, KONE, Outokumpu, Pohjola, Sanoma, SEK&GREY, UPM, Valio and WĂ€rtsilĂ€.

12. Don’t miss the Hidden Helsinki City Race – 23 September 2011

Have you ever seen Helsinki from above – slowly floating on air? The Hidden Helsinki City Race is proud to present the chance to WIN a ride in a HOT AIR BALLOON – and plenty of other cool prizes!

23 September, 6 hours, 28 teams and 17 tasks – who will get the best points in tasks related to discovering the history & designing the future of Helsinki?

Organised for the second time; this year as part of the Helsinki Region Welcome Weeks, organised by Helsinki Education and Research Area (HERA), the City of Helsinki, regional Opiskelijametropoli project / Student City, and Jolly Dragon, in cooperation with student organisations, student unions and local landmarks in Helsinki.

13. PUS-Basket is looking for new players

Searching for a basketball team? Have you played before but can’t find a suitable team? If you don’t want to practise 5 times a week, or pay 500 € / season, PUS-Basket is the right team for you.

PUS-Basket is the basketball team of Aalto University School of Science (all Aalto students are welcome). We practise twice a week at LeppÀvaara Sports Hall.
