1. International student – participate in AYY’s survey and help develop health care services and health insurances!

AYY is conducting a survey for the international students of Aalto University and the University of Helsinki on the use of healthcare services and health insurances in Finland. Your input is extremely important for the success of the survey. The results will be used both domestically and on the municipal level to influence different service providers to better take into account the needs of international students and to improve communication channels for international students. The health insurance recommended by Finnish authorities for non-EU/EEA students will be competitively re-tendered by a national agency this year, and it is important that the students’ experiences on the insurances are considered in the competitive tendering process.

Filling out the survey takes about 15 minutes and many prices (e.g. gift cards) will be drawn between the participants. The survey is open until 7.4.2017. All information is handled confidentially and the results will be reported anonymously. The study is conducted by the Research foundation for studies and education, Otus.

More information and the link to the survey: /blog/2017/03/15/international-student-participate-in-the-survey-and-help-develop-health-care-services-and-health-insurances/

2. Apply for AYY Scholarships!

AYY is distributing exchange, community and study scholarships this spring to support the internationalization of students, support community activities and encourage the successful combination of studies and student life.

The spring application period for the scholarships is from Wednesday 29th March, 12:00, to Wednesday 19th April, 23:59.

The applications for the Atlantinkatu apartments open in Domo on Monday 10th of April 2017 and closes on Wednesday 31st of May 2017. The queue spots will be drawn by lot between the applications sent during the allocated time. The lots will be drawn between point groups. After May, the applications for the building will continue according to the normal queue system.

Read more about the point system for the JÀtkÀsaari apartment applications from this link: /en/housing/apartment-seekers/how-to-apply-for-housing/jatkasaari-apartments/

That is why AYY is now making some of its apartment groups in East Helsinki open to all students, regardless of their place of study.

What on earth is this branding that everyone is talking about? How on earth does a brand affect the community’s operations and what does a brand actually contain? And, above all, how on earth are brands created, renewed and managed?

AYY, along with Futurice and Aalto Marketing Society, the student organization for marketing students, will answer all these questions during the big branding day held on April the 10th. Has your association lost sight of its purpose? Does your association look a bit scruffy? Is a new brand an all-encompassing solution to all of your problems? Are you interested in branding in general?

We will go through various interesting brand cases during the day and give you advice on how YOU can improve your association’s/company’s/your own brand. You will also learn how AYY’s brand is going to change this year and can influence the building of AYY‘s brand!

More information will follow soon, save the date!

Remember to also answer the brand survey here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeiSZPVlRQqTYAFbT35bAwry85URNAj1tvVsp4wbNxMoBAGNA/viewform

If you are interested in following the branding work in the future as well, we have a regularly updated blog on how things are progressing. First posting can be found here: /blogi/2017/03/23/ayy-branding-1-0/

24. Wappu Exchange on Sunday, the 23rd of April 2017

Wappu is coming once again. The traditional events, Wappu sitsit and all that stuff, all that jam, but ah, it’s always the same. The feeling that some change, maybe even an exchangeship, would freshen you up, is familiar to both freshmen and seniors alike.

If this sounds familiar, then the Wappu exchange might be the thing for you! Why be content with the Otaniemi Wappu, when you can see how it’s done elsewhere? So, join our exchange to see the Tampere Teekkariwappu on Sunday, the 23rd of April!

The merry bus ride to Hervanta leaves from Otaniemi at 11:00. At Hervanta, there will be a Wappuradio LIVE concert on the front lawn of TTY and the Academic Beer Pong World Championships at Bommari, with afterparties. You need not figure out a place to stay, though, since you can hop back on the bus and be safe and sound back at Otaniemi by 03:00 AM, with the bus leaving at 01:00 AM from Tampere.

Please note that you can sign up for the Beer Pong Tournament separately as the signup opens at 12:00 on the 17th of April, but participating in the Wappu Exchange does not automatically get you signed up for the tournament!

The price for the entire exchange is 10€ per person, with the bus trip from Otaniemi to Hervanta and back. The 50 spots go to the fastest signups, which opens on Tuesday, the 4th of April at 13:00 at https://lomake.ayy.fi/teekkarijaosto/wappuvaihto/.

Adacemic Engineers and Architects in Finland, more broadly known as TEK, encourages interaction between teekkari communities and is supporting the Wappu Exchange. Contact the teekkari sector correspondents Tyko Viertiö or Jonne ItÀpuro if you have any questions.

25. KyykkÀ Tournament on the 25th of April at 14:00

Why go to Tampere in the middle of the winter to practice some kyykkÀ, when you can throw skittles with the best of them in the wonderful, beautiful Otaniemi during spring? Gather a team and participate in the Wappu week kyykkÀ tournament on Tuesday, the 25th of April at 14:00.

The tournament is open for the first 12 teams that sign up and is played in groups, after which there will be the semifinals followed by the final. A team can fit four players, and gender, stage-of-teekkarihat-raggedness or the color of your overalls hold no stake in this competition. The winners of the tournament will be richly rewarded with awards that will be announced later!

Because there’s no need to reinvent the wheel, we will use the Academic KyykkĂ€ World Championship rules, which can be found at http://kyykka.fi/sÀÀnnöt

The signup opens on the 5th of April at 12:00 and closes on the 20th of April at 23:45 at https://lomake.ayy.fi/teekkarijaosto/kevatkyykka-2017-spring-skittles-2017/.

Since the teaching at Aalto University is focusing more and more on the Otaniemi campus, there are not enough AYY members with a right of residence applying for our apartments in East Helsinki. That is why AYY is now making some of its apartment groups in East Helsinki open to all students, regardless of their place of study.

5. Answer the AYY Brand Survey by April the 9th

AYY is undertaking systematic branding work now for the first time. Branding work isn’t just about logos and the visual outlook and their renewal; it is, if expressed in marketing jargon, an analytical and strategic process, where the core values of a brand are derived from a large quantity of data and creating a vision based on them: an identity and strategy. From this, concrete means of action are derived, and finally the brand is brought into use and its relevance and success are measured. Sounds hard to grasp? In practice, it means that instead of pondering on nice visuals, planning hoodie prints and coming up with snazzy slogans, it is about a lot more in-depth work.

Currently, we are in the process of creating a full and objective view on what the general state of AYY is. Branding does not mean merely a visual and communicational ‘sprucing up’, but pondering on the whole existence of AYY and considering the role of AYY in the student community, society and actually pretty much everything, in addition to communications and the visual outlook. This covers living, services, organization, visual outlook, identity, activities, culture, communications and pretty much every situation where AYY meets different parties or people.

The aim of this survey is to gain a large and comprehensive picture on what AYY agents, meaning YOU, think of AYY, its current state and what AYY should be like in the future. Based on the answers, we can create a picture on how AYY and its brand should be developed and how the points brought up by you can be made a reality. So, take care in answering, because your opinions will have a significant impact on the future of AYY!

Answer the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeiSZPVlRQqTYAFbT35bAwry85URNAj1tvVsp4wbNxMoBAGNA/viewform

For those interested in following our brand work also in the future, we will publish regular blog posts about what is going on with the branding. In the first blog post, we will talk about the brand work in general and tell the latest news from the chairperson seminar. You can find the post here /blogi/2017/03/23/ayy-branding-1-0/?lang=en

6. AYY Branding presents: Crash Course to Branding on April the 10th

With the assistance of professional coaching and diverse workshops from our partners, you can assemble your dream team and become the next big thing.

The Kiuas Team Up program is a follow-up to last year’s TeamUp Bootcamp, which brought 250 talented individuals to Startup Sauna and established the birth of multiple thriving startups, including Platonics, FactoryFinder and Duara Travels, all of which have experienced considerable success since last year’s TeamUp and Summer of Startups. This year we’re kicking it up a notch by bringing twice the number of participants to Startup Sauna!

Kiuas Team Up will take place on the second weekend of April (7.-9.4), after which the winning teams will advance to Aaltoes’ brand new Kiuas Incubator program. You can participate as a team or an individual.

There are only a few days left to apply and start the journey to finding your dream team! Come feel the heat of the Kiuas and apply now through this link: https://aaltoes17.typeform.com/to/CR8K9Q

Online at ainolehti.fi you can read two English translations of the magazines long feature articles: “Fear of commitment” asks if Aalto can really raise change makers when it refuses to get into politics and leaves out societal impact from its courses. “Women’s Fault” tells the story of Heinola – one of the many towns in Finland in which there lives significantly more young men than women.” You can also take part in a reader survey online and both affect Aino’s future and win movie tickets!

You may answer the survey when FSHS has sent you the link to participate. We will inform you of sending the links very soon. Watch out on thin ice and slippery streets! Slipping and falling is the most common cause of pedestrian accidents during the winter, so be careful. Avoid hurry and reserve enough time for transfers. Good winter shoes are a must! Also, remember to wear a reflector during the dark hours of the day.

The season for stomach flu and influenza is well under way. Don’t infect others and take care of yourself. When sick, give yourself time to heal. Throw away used tissues, cough into your sleeve and keep washing your hands with soap. If you catch a dose of either disease, take care of yourself! Tips on how to do that can be found at the FSHS healthcare page, filled with knowledge fit for many situations. Click yourself to http://www.yths.fi/terveystieto_ja_tutkimus/terveystietopankki

15. CEO x 1 Day 2017: We are looking for Finland’s most promising future leaders!

CEO x 1 Day gives university students from third year up the opportunity to spend a day with a prominent Finnish CEO. The program is organized by Odgers Berndtson, one of the largest executive search firms in the world. This season, Odgers Berndtson will identify 8 students with outstanding leadership potential through a rigorous selection process and match them with a CEO from a leading Finnish organization.

Why apply? The selection process gives valuable experience for your future career, including video interviews and personal meetings with executive search consultants. Semi-finalists take part in an activity day which puts their strategic and team work skills to test, as well as receive feedback on a personality assessment to develop their leadership capabilities. The finalists spend a day shadowing a CEO (including one-on-one time), learning about their background, career path, and leadership approach.

Who can apply? University students in Finland from third year up with at least 150 recorded study points. Foreign exchange students in Finland are welcome to participate.

Schedule. Apply online before March 3, 2017. CEO meetings take place in May-June 2017.
