4. Still time to nominate students who deserve recogition!

A conscientious team player or a diligent workhorse. A relentless creator of Aalto spirit or whoever.

AYY is looking for individuals from among its members who deserve recognition. The recipient does not have to be an active organisation member in ivory towers or an eternal student who has worn out the couches at AYY’s office. On the other hand, these features do not preclude anyone from receiving acknowledgement. Acknowledgements, which are granted for the first time, will be awarded in a festive event in 2013. Proposals are received by the acknowledgement working group.

The suggestion form is available at bling.ayy.fi

Who gets and who is given? You decide! Deadline for applications is 12noon on 31 Dec 2012.

5. Thank you card for a nice university employee

Did you go to a good lecture? Did a caretaker keep the door open for you when you had your hands full? Did a study secretary help you at the moment of despair?

Now it is time to thank a nice university employee.

By submitting a thank you through this form AYY will deliver an old-school postcard to this person with your thank you in it. The form is available from now on, so you can send your thank you in the future at any time.

6. Practices of the weekly newsletter to change in terms of event information

From the beginning of the next year, individual events will be advertised primarily in ”this and next week’s events” section of the weekly newsletter. Information about the event is automatically transferred to the weekly newsletter from the event calendar of AYY.fi, for which all associations and organisation should have usernames. Therefore, individual events will no longer be published as their own weekly newsletter section other than in exceptional cases. So please check that your association/organisation/guild/subject organisation has the username which you can use to add an event to the event calendar on AYY.fi, and add your event to your calendar in time. If, for some reason, you do not have the username or you have lost it, you can request it from the Communications Specialist Joonas Jylhä (joonas.jylha@ayy.fi).

7. AYY’s apartment keys at the turn of the year

Töölö Service Point will be closed between 21 Dec 2012–10 Jan 2013. During this time, all AYY’s apartment keys will be returned to the AYY Housing Office in Otaniemi. Exception: Moving dates in January are handled normally through Töölö Service Point.

If the Housing Office is closed, the keys can be left in the mail slot on the Otakaari side of the building. The mail slot has the following text: AYY Toimisto 11. When you return the keys, please put the keys in an envelope and write on the envelope your own name and the exact apartment!

Housing Office will organise a person to be at the Töölö Service Point on Wednesday, 2 Jan 2013. This means that on the moving day in January, the keys for Helsinki area are normally returned and collected at Töölö Service Point during the regular opening hours (10.30am–2.30pm). This also means that on the moving day in January, the keys for Helsinki area can be returned to Otaniemi.

On Wednesday 12 Dec 2012 in the Car Club at Jämeräntaival 1 at 6pm, I will arrange a course about some basic car maintenance as if: what´s important to know about when owning a car. Course contents:

  • changing a burned out light bulb; how hard can it be?
  • changing a window wiper; what? You can do that by yourself?
  • tire pressure; why should you care?
  • checking the fluids; yes, you have a lot of different fluids in your car.
  • other questions that you will come up with

Come by yourself or bring a friend/girlfriend/mother/other and get answers to these questions. If you or your significant other has a car with a burned light bulb or broken wipers, answer to me and I will buy the supplies required for a decent price, you will get your car fixed and everybody will learn something new. I need your car registration (Finnish) or make/model/year. This is a pilot course to assess the need for such a course. Welcome! Best wishes, Chair of TAK Henrik Hieta, henrik.hieta@aalto.fi
