At its meeting 4/2013, the Representative Council decided to discontinue the operations of AYY’s cultural arena. Following this decision, the Student Union has the video equipment of Aate in storage waiting for new users.

As AYY no longer has resources to organise similar activities, we hope that the associations have enthusiasm and know-how to use this valuable equipment. If your association has a need or interest to re-use the equipment, now is the opportunity to do so.

In the future, it is easier for associations to reach the organisational sector and AYY members in charge of facilities and IT issues under the same roof. The permanent removal from Lämpömiehenkuja to Otakaari will take place by mid-November.

4. HELP AALTO UNIVERSITY, AYY AND ALL STUDENTS TO SPREAD THE MESSAGE ABOUT THE BACHELOR’S FEEDBACK SURVEY

AYY and Aalto University hope that active students would spread the message about the national Bachelor’s feedback survey to those who completed the bachelor’s degree in the spring of 2013. This is a key channel to develop the university based on feedback and the only channel, based on which the University receives direct funding from the state.

What is this all about? Here is the text which is also available on our website (/kevaalla-2013-kandiksi-valmistunut-vastaa-aalto-yliopiston-kandikyselyyn/) and it should be spread to the fresh Bachelors of the spring.

Application for the equipment of Aate is open

At its meeting 4/2013, the Representative Council decided to discontinue the operations of AYY’s cultural arena. Following this decision, the Student Union has the video equipment of Aate in storage waiting for new users.

As AYY no longer has resources to organise similar activities, we hope that the associations have enthusiasm and know-how to use this valuable equipment. If your association has a need or interest to re-use the equipment, now is the opportunity to do so.

You can apply for the equipment or part of the equipment for AYY’s association between 14 Oct 2013 – 24 Oct 2013 by email at henna.hietanen@ayy.fi.

The application is informal but it must clearly state at least the following:

  • The association which applies for the equipment
  • Why and for what purpose you need the equipment
  • What is the overall significance of the equipment in terms of your association activities
  • Does your association have previous experience in the use and/or maintenance of similar equipment

In addition, ideas that help the association to use the equipment to benefit the whole community are regarded as an advantage. The ownership of the delivered equipment remains within AYY, but the association has the full right to control and use the equipment within the delivery contract. In addition, the association receiving the equipment is obliged to keep a record and take care of the equipment.

AYY Board makes the final decision on the delivery of the equipment and delivery details on the basis of applications received by the deadline. All associations which have delivered an application will be notified personally of the decision of AYY Board by 8 Nov 2013.

It is advisable to invest in the application!

1. EVENT INFORMATION ON AYY.FI AND AYY’S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

The electronic event calendar on AYY.fi was renewed during the summer. In this context, it is good to remind the associations that each association is responsible for adding their own events in the electronic event calendar of AYY.fi. This can be done with usernames created for associations, which are also used for the administration of the association profile on AYY.fi. Usually information on single events is not added to AYY’s weekly newsletter separately, but the communications officer will pick events for the weekly newsletter from the event calendar on AYY.fi. Therefore, if you want your event to be added to AYY’s weekly newsletter, it is enough that you add your event to the event calendar of AYY.fi with your own username. If you have lost your username or need help in adding your event, you can send e-mail to jarjestoasiat@ayy.fi.

Orientation at the schools and tutor activities are part of AFYE’s concept. In addition, we organise a variety of events and occasions and on our website we inform new students about opportunities that concern them.

AFYE invites student organisations, guilds and associations to create an incredible first year for new students and show everything that Aalto consists of. AFYE provides funding for events organised for new students during the upcoming academic year.

The event will be organised at the turn of September-October.

Now is a good time to let us know if your sports association wants to join and organise a checkpoint for the competition and/or participate in the fair. The sooner your association gets involved, the better chances you have to contribute to the implementation of this new event!

7. PARTICIPATE IN THE MAKING OF ESPOO CINÉ FESTIVAL!

Every year, a large group of volunteers participate in the making of Espoo Ciné Film Festival (16-25 Aug 2013), without whom the festival would simply not exist. Voluntary workers get to see the festival films for free, have free meals every day, get a staff t-shirt and the festival catalogue, as well as a letter of reference at request. And when the festival is over, there is a party for the volunteers. Many volunteers have such a good time that they come back year after year to build this warm-hearted festival together.

Join the hustle of the first film festival of the autumn, and go behind the scenes to look how the film festival with 25,000 visitors is organised. Tasks vary from ticket sales to info desk and decorating. You can participate as long as you are over 18-years old, have an active attitude and you are willing to sacrifice your time in good company. Help is needed particularly during the festival, but also a few weeks before it.

Further information and registration form are available at: http://www.espoocine.fi/2013/talkoolaiset. (in Finnish)

8. BLOOMIN’ AFRICA ’14

Aalto University Student Union is taking about 30 students to Africa in the beginning of 2014! BLOOM is a journey that will be remembered as a great cultural experience. BLOOM is a way to find and learn.

BLOOM, Bridge of Learning – Operation: OndA! in Maputo, is a journey to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, and it’s surroundings. We will spend three weeks in an African environment, in the Mozambican culture and, of course, with great people.

We will be working in different ways with a local non-governmental organization, ASSCODECHA as part of the project of a Finnish NGO, Taksvärkki (Operation: Day’s Work). Our project will consist of challenging tasks with, for example, infrastructure, education, and economic development or any special useful skills we got.

We are looking for people from all possible backgrounds, of all possible experience levels, with different kinds of skills and of all possible ages. These people will organize art workshops, film documentaries, teach entrepreneurial skills, build sanitary facilities etc. etc. However, the trip is all about learning and sharing experiences in two directions.

Part of the trip is reserved for relaxing and taking some time for ourselves. This could include safaris, water sports, day trips and so on. You decide! Application will be arranged in September. Keep your eyes and ears open for additional information. This time for Africa!
